Immigration and the Paris Experience
FRCH 308/408, WLIT 308/408, ETHS 308, WGST 308

Paris is a cosmopolitan city, bringing together immigrants from all around the world. In this course, the city of Paris is the classroom. Students explore the multiple facets and temporalities of the “ville monde”, made by and seen through the eyes of migrants from all around the world – shop owners, workers, students, musicians, writer or painters, today and in the past.
Discovering the city through its rich cultural and ethnic neighborhoods, students learn about the Paris constituded by influences from outside. Students visit cultural centers and museums, observe a literacy program for France’s newly arrived immigrants and conduct research on the social issues of today’s immigration.
For students enrolled in FRCH 308/408, the coursework is in French. (See prerequisite requirements below.) For students enrolled in WLIT 308/408, ETHS 308, and WGST 308, the coursework is in English. Counts as a CAS Global & Cultural Diversity course.
Prerequisite Requirements: Instructor approval required. FRCH 202 or instructor permission is required for students enrolling in FRCH 308/408. Graduate student status is required for enrollment in FRCH 408 or WLIT 408.
Program fee includes: lodging, meals, ground transportation and activities.
