Welcome to the French program at Case Western Reserve University!
BIENVENUE! The French language is represented on all five continents and is spoken by more than 90 million people worldwide. French is the working language or second language of numerous international organizations including the United Nations, the International Red Cross, and the European Union. Command of the French language and knowledge of Francophone cultures are increasingly indispensable to those interested in European culture and history; science and technology; literature and the arts; and Middle Eastern, West African, and North American Studies.
The National French Honor Society
On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, the French Section held a ceremony to install our new campus chapter, Rho Kappa, of the National French Honor Society (Pi Delta Phi).
Ensemble French Club
On April 14, 2024, students from the Ensemble French Club organized a guided tour in French of the exhibit “Monet in Focus” at the Cleveland Museum of Art.
French Get-Together
On November 17, 2023, the French section welcomed currently enrolled students, including majors and minors, as well as those who visited the Choices Fair to express their interest in French for its inaugural, annual Get-Together!
Campus Visit: Honorary Consul of France and Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris
On November 13, 2023, Department Chair, Damaris Puñales-Alpízar, and the French Professors, Jane Battisson, Charlotte Sanpere and Fabienne Pizot-Haymore were delighted to welcome Alexandre Holle, Director in Charge of Innovation and International Partnerships.
Ensemble French Club
On November 5, 2023, students from the French Club “Ensemble” organized a guided tour, in French, of the exhibit “Degas and the Laundress” at the Cleveland Museum of Arts.
Study Abroad FRCH 308: Immigration and the Paris Experience
Students spent three weeks in May 2023 in Paris studying immigration.
