On September 20, 2023, in recognition of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, 70 students from Instructor Xin Zhang’s CHIN 101 and CHIN 320 classes visited the Cleveland Museum of Art. The students visited the “China’s Southern Paradise Exhibition,” the first of its kind outside of Asia. The exhibition showcases the artistic production and cultural impact of the lower Yangzi delta, a region fondly refrered to as “Jiangnan.” Known for its rich cultural heritage, Jiangnan has played a pivotal role in shaping Chinese art, history, and society. During the exhibit, students were immersed in the exquisite artistic expressions that define the region’s cultural identity. After the exhibit, students went to the Cleveland Public Library which houses many original Chinese books.
