Professor Xin Zhang is a Chinese language educator with international teaching experience, and was born in Qingdao, China. She received her M.A. in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (Teaching Chinese as a Second Language) from Beijing Language and Culture University. Since 2000, Professor Zhang has taught all levels of Chinese, as well as Chinese Popular Culture, Business Chinese and Chinese Literature, in Asia, Africa, and North America. Her teaching appointments include University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in the United States, Ocean University of China and Beijing Language and Culture University in China, as well as institutions in South Korea and Mauritius.

Professor Zhang has published three books: Modern Business Secretary (1995), Foreign Trade Practical Writing (1998), and Literature Reading (2003). In 2009, she received first prize in the nationwide Writing Competition of China.

Since moving to the United States in 2013, Professor Zhang has taught at the college level and has served as a faculty mentor, Chinese program director, and faculty advisor.

Professor Zhang joined Case Western Reserve University in 2021. Here, she founded the Study Abroad Program and the Mandarin Club for the Chinese Section.  She has also developed two new courses: Medical Chinese and Chinese Calligraphy. Professor Zhang has served as the faculty advisor for the Mandarin Club since 2024 and has actively participated in the professional activities of the Chinese Language Teachers Association in the United States. Under her guidance, CWRU students won first place at the 2022 National Chinese EXPO of Student Works.
