On October 19, 2023, a film screening of the film PLUTO by award-winning Italian filmmaker Renzo Carbonera was held in Strosacker Auditorium, free and open to the public. There were approximately 40 attendees: students, faculty, staff, and other members of the greater Cleveland area community of all ages. The event was co-sponsored by the department of Modern Languages and Literatures program in Italian, the department of History, the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities, and the CWRU Film Society.
PLUTO exemplified the power of cinema to blend fiction with history and real-life events. The film was not limited to cinema as entertainment, nor was it exclusively a documentary. No one left Strosacker Auditorium without feeling very affected, educated, emotional, and enriched as the result of what they had seen and heard, especially from Carbonera himself, who held Q&A with attendees.
