On April 27, 2024, the upcoming fall semester special topics courses in Spanish and Italian, Slow Food in Latin America and the Slow Food Movement, took part in World Disco Soup Day 2024. Around the globe, chapters of Slow Food International and Slow Food Youth held diverse events to focus on reducing the planet’s food waste. Bon Appétit at CWRU provided unused food items and students prepared and cooked Tortilla Española together at the Sparti-Que while also perusing the NY Times bestseller Plant You: Scrappy Cooking – Plant-Based Zero-Waste, which came out earlier this month. Two students attending were each given a copy.
Professors Jacqueline Nanfito and Denise Caterinacci shared stories about CWRU’s many activities surrounding cultures and languages in the worldwide Slow Food movement, and information about the fall course proceedings. They are also collaborating with exhibitions librarian Elizabeth Meinke in Kelvin Smith Library to hold a special exhibit about Slow Food around the world, at CWRU, and in DMLL, and to host activities during Hispanic-Latino and Italian heritage month. The interdisciplinary exhibit will open October 15, 2024.
